Multivac: inspection systems for a higher level of food safety

At interpack, the company group Multivac presents itself as an experienced manufacturer of automation solutions. The solution portfolio covers all types of automation tasks and levels of integration.

With a holistic understanding of customers' products and requirements, the processes for infeed, marking, quality inspection as well as cartoning and palletisation are also integrated in fully automated solutions. In addition to conveyor belt labellers that are designed around customers‘ needs, Multivac Marking & Inspection will be shifting the focus primarily to visual inspection systems.
Thanks to these systems that can be integrated seamlessly into packaging lines, automated quality control can be performed reliably even at high output. In the light of more exacting legal requirements and greater liability risks, food-processing companies are faced with the task of making the labelling of their products an integral part of their quality management.
It is for this reason, that Multivac will be showing the I 410, a space-saving inspection solution, which is mounted on a separate transport conveyor and is equipped with a high-resolution line scanner and powerful image processing for both top and bottom scanning, and which performs highly reliable inspection of pack quality and labelling. The areas of use range from completeness checks on the packs, through to presence and position inspection of the labels, and right up to checking the print – and this includes pattern recognition, character verification, text checking and inspection of legibility and codes.
For use in the food industry, the I 410 is designed in the special Multivac Hygienic Design. The exceptionally compact model which will be shown at interpack can for example be used as a stand-alone solution connected to a traysealer, whereby the packs are either transferred from an upstream transport unit or fed in manually. A motorised ejection device ejects the reject packs. This means that no compressed air is required for operation.
In addition to this, Multivac will also be presenting the Baseline I 100, a particularly space-saving design of X-ray inspection system for detecting foreign objects. Faulty products are ejected via the downstream I 210 checkweigher. This is equipped with many different checking functions to meet the highest food standards – each individual product is for example indexed into the unit and monitored with the aid of the line-motion control.
