The Circana confectionery monitor reports revenues of € 6.540 bn. Sales volume however dropped by 2.8% down to 656,100 tonnes (basis: food retailers >= 200 m² including hard discounters + drug stores). The market researchers cited the private label share at 32.5% (+ 0.7%).
Chocolate products achieved below-average revenue growth of 4.3% up to € 2.723 bn in the first four months of 2024, which Circana attributes in particular to the noteworthy decline in quantity (- 4.9%; 208,600 t). Sugar confectionery registered the highest price increase level at 16.2% accompanied by a significant increase in revenues of 9.2% up to € 999 m (sales volume - 6.0%; 119,700 t).
Salty snacks increased revenues by 6.1% up to € 1.636 bn, and was the only product group that also achieved an increase in sales volume (+ 2.4%; 162,300 t). Suppliers in the sweet baked goods/cake category increased revenues by 2.6% up to € 1.166 bn (sales volume - 2.7%; 164,400 t).
Overall, confectionery revenues increased by € 321 m compared to the same period last year, with around 68% of this growth representing an increase of € 216 m attributed to discounters. Consumer markets (>= 800 m²) experienced growth of € 81 m (share: 25%).
