According to the latest IRI confectionery monitor, sales volume decreased by 0.9% down to 941,180 tonnes (basis: food retailers + drug stores + hard discounters + gas station shops).
The category of sweet baked goods and cakes demonstrated a significant increase in revenues, rising by 3.0% up to € 1.398 bn accompanied by increased sales volume of 2.7% up to 248,331 tonnes. Sugar confectionery also delivered a solid performance in the first half-year with revenues increasing by 2.5% up to € 1.024 bn and sales volume of 183,928 tonnes (+ 0.9%).
Chocolate products (without season), the largest product group, suffered losses of 3.0% in revenues (€ 2.895 bn) and sales volume (278,971 t). Even salty snacks suppliers, accustomed to consistent success, struggled with development in the first half of the year, with € 1.976 bn signifying a decline in revenues of 3.1% joined by reduced sales volume of 3.5% down to 229,950 tonnes.
According to IRI, the chewing gum segment registered major growth in revenues (+ 7.6%; € 221.4 m) and sales volume (+ 6.5%; 147 million pieces).
