Chocolate products (without seasonal items) generated the strongest revenues, achieving the highest increase rate of 7.4% up to € 6.447 bn (sales volume + 3.4%, 619,292 t). Salty snacks revenues rose 3.2% up to € 4.069 bn (sales volume + 0.9%, 485,829 t). The sweet baked goods and cake product group also delivered a solid performance with an increase in revenues of 5.2% up to € 2.707 bn (sales volume + 1.1%, 479,820 t). The IRI market researchers registered revenues for sugar confectionery of € 2.074 bn, representing growth of 5.7% (sales volume + 3.7%, 373,183 t).
The Christmas chocolate season (September to December) enjoyed outstanding development in 2021, with revenues climbing compared to the previous year by 11.9% up to € 775 m (sales volume + 9.3%, 45,753 t). The only segment to suffer losses in 2021 was chewing gum, which underwent a drop in revenues of 4.3% down to € 435.7 m (sales volume - 6.7%, 293.1 million pieces).
