Nielsen confectionery monitor: increased revenues in all categories

Der deutsche Süßwarenmarkt wächst gemäß dem aktuellen Süßwarenmonitor von Nielsen auf der Umsatzseite deutlich stärker als auf der Absatzseite.
Nielsen‘s market researchers attribute this to the increased pricing level. German retail confectionery sales rose accordingly in the first ten months of 2021 (week through Nov. 7th, 2021) by 3.5% up to € 12.5 bn. In comparison with the same period in the previous year, sales volume fell slightly by 0.6% down to 1.503 m tonnes (source: Nielsen Market Track; grocery retail + drug stores).

The salty snacks category achieved increased revenues of 5.6% up to € 3.2 bn (sales volume + 2.8%, 385,400 t). Chocolate products increased earnings by 4.4% up to € 5.6 bn (sales volume - 0.2%, 526,400 t). For the first time in a long time, sugar confectionery also registered revenue growth, citing an increase of 0.6% (sales volume - 1.1%, 304,500 t) up to € 2.0 bn. The baked goods category slightly increased revenues by 0.2% up to € 1.7 bn (sales volume: - 5.2%, 286,700 t).

Nielsen‘s analysis reveals that in a comparison of the confectionery revenues achieved in the individual sales channels, notable rates of increase were observed in drug stores (+ 7.2%), small consumer markets (+ 6.9%) and large consumer markets (+ 6.7%). Large supermarkets (+ 0.9%) and discounters (+ 0.6%) saw movement just above last year‘s levels. The only channel suffering a decline was small supermarkets (- 4.9%).
