The strongest sales category, chocolate products, demonstrated an increase of 1.1% up to € 5.131 bn according to Nielsen. Salty snacks remained on track with above-average revenue growth of 3.8% up to € 2.499 bn. Baked goods also put in a solid performance with sales of € 1.506 bn representing growth of 2.6%. The only category with revenue losses was sugar confectionery: 1.2% down to € 2.235 bn.
According to Nielsen confectionery revenues in the individual sales channels shaped up as follows: consumer markets, discounters and drug stores enjoyed growth, while supermarkets, department stores, impulse channels and gas station shops suffered losses. The proportion of confectionery promotional sales rose in comparison to the same period in the previous year by 5.4% up to 26.2%. The greatest increase in promotion revenue came from baked goods at 12.2%.
