IRI: revenues and sales volume in the black

German retail confectionery sales showed continued positive development in September and October of 2017. Accumulated up to the end of October, the IRI market researchers calculated a revenue increase of 2.8% up to € 10.442 bn.
Sales volume rose in the first ten months of 2017 by 1.7% up to 1.452 million tonnes (basis: food retailers + drug stores + hard discounters + gas station shops).

A solid revenue increase of 2.1% up to € 4.343 bn was registered in the strongest category, chocolate products (without season), joined by a 1.0% increase in sales quantity of 442,522 tonnes. According to the IRI monitor, salty snacks are continuing their successful course unabated. By the end of October 2017 retail sales revenues rose by 6.5% up to € 2.482 bn (sales volume 322,758 t; + 4.4 %). The value of the sweet baked goods & cakes category clearly exceeded the projected target by 3.3% to € 1.928 bn (sales volume 374,853 t; + 2.7%).

Sugar confectionery was the only product group to register a decline in revenues, falling by 0.8% down to € 1.689 bn (sales volume 310,772 t; - 1.2%). Chewing gum revenues remained precisely at the previous year‘s level of € 418.7 m, with 294.5 million pieces of gum (- 1.7%) sold in the first ten months of 2017.
