Orkla constructs a new multimillion factory in Latvia

Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija plans to make multimillion investments into the construction of a new, modern and multipurpose factory in Latvia.
"The strategy purpose is to strengthen the positions of ‘Laima’ and other trademarks of Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija under conditions of tough competition both in the local, and in the international markets. We will spend several million euros to construct a new and modern factory. For the last two years more than € 10 m have been already invested and therefore the total amount of investments will become one of the largest in the food industry in Latvia," Erik Smith-Hansen, chairman of the board emphasized. The factory will offer many new opportunities, including the possibility to produce for other entities of Orkla.

A considerable part of Laima production will be gradually, within three years, transferred to the new factory. “The present premises of the Laima factory in Miera street structurally and technologically became outdated and, therefore, they no more fit the modern production processes. It is a labyrinth of buildings, floors and expansions which were constructed several decades ago", Smith-Hansen explained. Financial director and the board member of Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija Toms Didriksons will lead the development of the Laima enterprize (source: unipack.ru).
