Wawi‘s management converted to a ”process-oriented organisation” during the last fiscal year, generating cost advantages due to fewer employees and improved process quality. The press release stated, “direct information flow without departmental thinking has increased the speed and flawlessness of the processes”. The production operation now delivers all of the year-round articles and as well as the advent calendars in fully closed cartons via conveyor belt without any employee ever having touched them.
Wawi‘s foreign subsidiaries were particularly successful last year. Production was significantly increased at its plants in Romania, China, Canada and Australia. The company points out, ”we are also pleased with the yields abroad, which are far better than those on the heavily competitive German market”.
In January Wawi relinquished its 25.1% holdings in Confiserie Coppeneur et Compagnon GmbH from the German city of Bad Honnef. However, in the medium-term the company is planning to return to the confiserie sector. As previously reported, on July 1st, 2016 Wawi Schokolade AG took control of 65% of mkm GmbH – Manufaktur für Geniesser, headquartered in Burghaslach, Germany. mkm was founded as a start-up by Markus and Michael Kühlwein in 2004. Today most of the focus at the company with its some 100 employees (season-related) is on the production of premium trademarks for customers both in Germany and abroad.
