IRI monitor: stable revenue increase

The development of German retail confectionery revenue and sales volume remains positive in 2016, even after eight months.
According to IRI monitor, revenues rose by 4.2% up to € 7.964 bn, while sales volume increased by 3.2% up to 1.122 m tonnes (basis: food retailers + drug stores + hard discount + gas station shops). The growth engine here continues to be salty snacks, with increased revenues of 7.8% up to € 1.814 bn and sales volume growth of 8.5% up to 241,332 tonnes.

The strongest product group, chocolate products (without season), improved earnings by 3.3% up to € 3.401 bn. Sales volume of 352,974 tonnes here signifies only minimal growth of 0.6%. Revenues also rose 3.9% in the category of fine baked goods and cakes (€ 1.440 bn, with an accompanying sales volume increase of 3.2% (285,295 t).

According to the calculations from the IRI market researchers, sugar confectionery revenues rose by 2.0% up to € 1.308 bn with an increased sales volume of 2.3% (242,262 t). Only the chewing gum category experienced a revenue decrease (€ 319.4 m, - 1.5%) compared to the level of the same period in the previous year (sales volume: 230.1 m units, + 0.6 %).
