Chocolate remained the product group with the strongest sales. This category‘s price level increased over that of the previous year by 3.3%. The segments chocolate bars and praline-similar products contributed significantly to the increased revenues. The sales growth of sugar confectionery was notably influenced by fruit and wine gums, chewable candies and liquorice. Cough drops, peppermint candies and chewing gum remained below last year‘s result. The market researchers calculated a significant increase in the sales volume of sugar confectionery amounting to 3.5%, with the price level sinking by 1.1%.
Many segments suffered sales decreases within the salty snacks category, but these losses were compensated by positive development in segments including premium nuts, snack specialties and peanut kernels. The price level was slightly above that of the previous year (+ 0.4%). In the baked goods category, revenue increases were registered among other baked goods with chocolate, sandwiched biscuits and others. Mild quantity growth (+ 0.3%) and a rising price level (+ 1.1%) were registered in this category.
Confectionery sales increases were achieved in the sales channels consumer markets, discount retailers, drug stores and department stores. Supermarkets, gas station shops and impulse channels remained below the previous year‘s level. The share of promotion-related confectionery sales fell by 0.2% down to 25.2%.
