Hershey acquires manufacturer of BarkThins

Hershey Co. has announced to buy the maker of the BarkThins, chocolate pieces with nuts, seeds and fruit baked in. Hershey wouldn’t say what it paid for the company, called Ripple Brand Collective LLC.
The concern said it expected BarkThins to have USD 65 m to USD 75 m in sales this year, compared with Hershey’s overall roughly USD 7.5 bn in sales.

Hershey’s snacking division, which also includes Krave beef jerky and Brookside fruit-and-nut bars, only represents about 2% of its annual sales. Hershey Co. said its sales and profit for the year will likely be lower than expected as its chocolate bars struggle to compete with newer snacks like fruit-and-nut bars considered by many consumers to be healthier. The company said its sales fell 5.6% to USD 1.83 bn in first quarter 2016, while profit declined 6% to USd 229.8 m.
