HUG AG invests in brands and production

In the 2015 financial year, the Swiss HUG AG bakery products group in Malters/Lucerne suffered a loss in turnover of 3.5% to CHF 110 m.
In particular, the decline in the consumption of biscuits and chocolate and the currency situation contributed to this result. Accordingly, the tonnage produced in Switzerland declined by around 350 tons to 8,620 tons. Despite these challenges, HUG AG was able to hold its share of the Swiss market thanks to DAR-VIDA wholemeal crackers. A bright spot in 2015 was also the growing export of brands despite major foreign exchange losses. In 2016, HUG is countering the creeping decline in consumption in Switzerland with a brand offensive and is investing around CHF 20 million in production.
