Nielsen monitor: chocolate products perform clearly above last year’s level

German retail confectionery sales through calendar week 44 of 2015 showed positive development over the previous year, according to Nielsen.
With an average price increase of 2.4% Nielsen’s current confectionery monitor cites a revenue increase of 3.4% up to € 11.025 bn (basis: food retailers + drug stores + impulse channels + gas station shops + department stores). Sales volume grew by 1.0% up to 1.44 m tonnes.

The market researchers noted increased revenues in all product categories: chocolate products (+ 5.0%), salty snacks (+ 3.2%), baked goods (+ 3.3%) and sugar confectionery (+ 0.6%). Revenue profits with confectionery products were achieved in the sales channels consisting of consumer markets, discounters, drug stores and department stores. Supermarkets, gas station shops and impulse channels registered lower sales than the previous year.
