Sal Ferrara dies at age 63

Sal Ferrara II, CEO of Haribo of America, Inc. and patriarch of Ferrara Candy Co., Inc., passed away on Thanksgiving Day from cancer. He was 63. He began his 47-year career with his family’s company, serving in various capacities including general partner from 1973 to 1986, when he was named president and COO. He went on to serve as chairman and CEO of the company until his departure earlier this year, when he became CEO of Haribo of America Inc., charged with building the German company’s first U.S. plant. A past chairman of the NCA, Ferrara was a long-serving and strong presence within the association. Ferrara received numerous accolades and honors throughout his career, including the 1990 NCBA Golden Candy Dish. He was inducted into the NCSA Candy Hall of Fame in 2002.
