Heidi Chocolat AG buys Niemetz

The Meinl subsidiary Heidi Chocolat AG has bought the Austrian confectionery manufacturer Niemetz ("Schwedenbomben") for 5.25 million euros. The Romanian company promised to keep the Niemetz production in Vienna, Austria. Heidi Choocolat wants to enter the Austrian market and to make the sweet Schwedenbombe popular in the neighbouring countries.

"The Viennese traditional products such as the original Schwedenbombe, Manja and Swedy are a perfect supplement for Heidi Chocolat’s premium range", said the general director Erwin Vondenhoff. He announced that it would need "necessary investment in the production venue, in sales, marketing and in the organisation in order to ensure the future of the company".

Heidi Chocolat S.A. was founded in Romania by the Swiss traditional confiserie Läderach in 1994. It became a subsidiary of Julius Meinl Group in an JV with the Meinl subsidiary Kandia Dulce SA in January 2013 and delivers its products to more than 40 countries. The company, with its headquarters in Pantelimon near Bucharest, offers a range of classic chocolate bars in various flavours, pralines, crème and nut bars.
