CAOBISCO and ILO to expand fight against child labour

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Association of Chocolate, Biscuit and Confectionery Industries of Europe (CAOBISCO) have signed a project cooperation Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement to contribute to the elimination of the worst forms of child labour (WFCL) in seasonal commercial agriculture in hazelnut harvesting in Turkey.. The project activities in the Black Sea region province of Ordu to be implemented with CAOBISCO funding will cover a 12 month period till April 2014. The project will improve the local capacity to support the removal of children from working in agriculture and the prevention of at-risk children from entering such work. The capacity of public institutions and local NGOs will be enhanced and new monitoring models and partnerships will be developed. The project would demonstrate how multinational companies, working in partnership with ILO constituents, can achieve sustainable progress in eliminating child labour in their supply chains by raising awareness against child labour and developing a child labour monitoring system.
