Despite the ongoing Euro crisis and rocketing costs of raw materials, Weidenhammer Packaging Group (WPG), Hockenheim, hit a new high with 2012 business year sales up 6.5% to € 245 m. This is the 17th consecutive year of growth for WPG. Cash flow remains stable at 13%. This year the company is anticipating further strong sales bolstered by growth abroad, and aims to extend its position as market leader. As well as ramping up sales teams and investing in R&D, WPG plans to enter new markets in 2013. In November Weidenhammer is to open its first facility in Latin America. The plant, in Chile, will manufacture composite cans.
Both Weidenhammer divisions – composite and plastic packaging – contributed to success. Relatively new Weidenhammer Plastic Packaging (WPP), based in Zwenkau in Saxony, is still finding its feet, according to a release – despite developing highly innovative products. "2012 was an intensive, busy year. And our investments are starting to pay off. In almost all of our factories we have increased productivity, which in turn has enabled us to cope with wage and salary increases which were almost double the rate of inflation," said Ralf Weidenhammer.
