Kraft Foods, Inc. has made a five-year commitment to bring its Cocoa Partnership program to farmers in the Dominican Republic. The company is working with the U.S. Agency for International Development to increase the yield and quality of Dominican cocoa. Kraft says 10,000 cocoa farmers in the Conacado cooperative will be provided with training on farming techniques, post-harvest practices and supplemental income opportunities. The Cocoa Partnership, established in 2008 by Kraft’s Cadbury brand, has committed to investing approximately 70 million USD to cocoa farmer training in Ghana, India, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean during the next 10 years, Kraft says.
