Confectionery manufacturer Storck looks back over successful business year
August Storck KG, Berlin, chalked up considerable growth during the business year 2008. Sales were up 8% to € 1.4 bn. According to Storck excellent performances at home and abroad contributed towards making 2008 "the most successful year in the history of the company". Sales on the German market grew faster than the overall confectionery market rate, reported to be 5% by market researchers GfK. Storck runs facilities in Berlin, Halle/Westphalia and Ohrdruf in Thuringia.
In the sugar confectionery segment Storck s well known brands and products achieved substantial growth. The family-owned company was particularly pleased with the performance of the new nimm2 and Campino lollies. As a result, Storck swiftly rose to the position of category leader ( Nielsen Market Track, food retail stores, including hard discounters and drugstores) Storck was already represented in the lolly category with Schleckies.
Storck also saw strong sales of chocolate specialities, with growth well above average for that segment. Market share was extended. Both firmly-established Storck brands as well as well-received new products contributed towards success. Particularly promising : the new Werther s Original line of chocolate confectionery.
Subsidiaries in Asia, Europe and America delivered double digit growth on markets abroad, thus driving overall Storck revenues significantly. Storck feels well-prepared to meet the formidable challenges of an increasingly difficult market environment this coming business year and is looking ahead with optimism.
