World’s most famous lolly turns 50
Spanish sugar confectionery brand Chupa Chups will be 50 this year. In 1958 Enric Bernat invented the first sweet on a stick and called it “Chups” – from the Spanish word for suck. The Chupa Chups breakthrough in Germany came in 1994 under the direction of Bärbel Viader, who masterminded a highly successful campaign (“Leck mich!”). According to the company itself, Chupa Chups is and will remain the most popular lolly brand worldwide.
