Chocolate advertising in the UK restricted further

UK restrictions on adverts for products containing high levels of fat, sugar or salt have been extended, with effect from January 1st 2008. TV spots – advertising chocolate and crisps for instance – may no longer be shown during programmes with a high proportion of viewers under 16. Up until now children under 10 had been the focus of the protective measure.

The UK government hopes this step will help combat obesity. At the same time an initiative to increase the number of sport lessons at schools from two to five a week has been launched.
