Godiva Chocolatier for sale

Campbell Soup Co. on Thursday said it will explore strategic alternatives, including a possible sale, for its Godiva Chocolatier business, as the company looks to focus on healthier food items. "Although the premium chocolate category is experiencing strong growth and Godiva is well-positioned for the future, the premium chocolate business does not fit with Campbell s strategic focus on simple meals" Campbell President and Chief Executive Douglas Conant said in a statement. "It is the right time to explore strategic alternatives for Godiva as we continue to optimize Campbell s long-term growth potential."

Godiva s annual sales have been around €362.48 m. In the fiscal quarter, that ended April 29, the company reported that the chocolate company s sales had big growth in Asia and smaller sales growth in North America. Campbell has been trying to boost its image as a purveyor of healthy foods. The company has reduced the sodium in many of its soups and other products and has been ramping up marketing and distribution of its V8 vegetable juice. The company has even rolled out a whole-grain versions of its Goldfish crackers.
