Hershey plans India entry with local firm

Hershey is drawing up plans to enter the Indian market with local dairy firm Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) or chocolate maker Campco, the Economic Times paper said on Thursday. A team from Hershey has visited GCMMF, which makes the popular Amul brand of dairy and confectionery products, and has discussed a manufacturing and marketing alliance with equal equity participation, the paper said, quoting sources in GCMMF.
"We are indeed evaluating the possibility of an alliance," the paper quoted GCMMF Managing Director B.M. Vyas as saying. India s large base of young people is seen as an attractive market for packed foods and beverages, but a lion s share of this business is informal, in the hands of regional players.
