Frito-Lay closing two facilities
Frito-Lay Inc. said that it plans to close two plants in Texas and Hawaii. As part of the consolidation, the Plano-based snacks maker will slash its work force by 387 people.
Production at the facilities in Lubbock and Honolulu will be shifted to larger facilities in Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Utah and Washington. The facilities will stop operations by the end of the year. The Lubbock facility is one of the company s oldest, and the Honolulu facility is landlocked and can t be expanded.
"While productivity is one of the hallmarks of Frito-Lay s success, these decisions are never easy," said Rich Beck, Frito-Lay s senior vice president for operations. Frito-Lay North America, is the $10 billion branded snacks division of PepsiCo, which is based in Purchase, NY.
