Tangerine acquires parts of Burton s Foods

The British sugar confectionery company Tangerine acquires parts of the biscuits- and confectionery maker Burton’s Foods. Blackpool-based Tangerine should increase its annual turnover from around €66.7m to €88.9m thanks to the acquisition, which will allow Burton to concentrate on biscuit-making.
Privately-owned Tangerine makes a range of products including Mojo and Princess Marshmallows. In January, Toms UK, the British operation of chocolate company Toms of Denmark, was acquired.

The takeover includes Burton’s factory in Blackpool, which employs 180 people and produces supermarket-brand liquorice allsorts, dolly mixtures and jelly babies. Tangerine chairman Steven Joseph said: “This confirms our position as the leading supplier of sugar confectionery. The products and expertise are an excellent fit with our business and development plans.” Tangerine already employs 450 people at sites in Liverpool and Poole and its Blackpool headquarters.
Burton’s Foods will concentrate on buiscuits business. The company produces major label biscuit brands including Maryland cookies, Wagon Wheels, Jammie Dodgers and Cadbury Fingers.
