United Biscuits:profits increased in 2005

United Biscuits plc reported that 2005 revenue from continuing operations increased by 4.7% to GBP1.3bn (€2.2bn), while business profit increased by around 25% to a little over GBP2bn. Total key brand revenue rose by 2%,reflecting the company’s continuing focus on marketing and innovation of priority products.Now 88% of UB’s portfolio is branded. This change in focus, coupled with cost savings through 2005 led to a 2.7% improvement in business profit margins, claims the company. In February UB acquired the former Folden Wonder brands Nik Naks and Wheat Crunchies from Tayto to extend its position in the UK snack market. The brands will continue to be produced at Golden Wonder’s factory under a co-manufacturing agreement with Tayto.
