Ferrero wins legal case against Chinese counterfeiters

Italian chocolate gigant Ferrero has successfully brought a lawsuit against Montresor (Zhangjiagang) Food, a Chinese food company, to stop producing the counterfeit products immediately. The firm produce a copycat version of the famous Ferrero Rocher brand. Tianjin High Court has ruled that Montresor must pay € 80,000 to Ferrero Rocher.The court has also ordered that the Chinese group cease production of the contested chocolate brand. “The product was exactly the same,it had the same confection, the same packaging and even the name sounded similar,” a Ferrero spokesperson said.Ferrero’s revenue for 2004 was € 4.8 bn. Although the Chinese market currently accounts for a very small percentage of this figure,the Ferrero spokesman said the company sees it as a growth market.
