Dreyer`s to close Commerce ice cream plant

California-based Dreyer`s Grand Ice Cream Holdings will shut down its City of Commerce manufacturing plant at the end of April 2006. The Commerce plant closure will impact 99 employees, but Dreyer`s said it hopes to offer alternative positions or work locations to most of these workers, including jobs at a newly expanded Bakersfield ice cream plant. All production from the Commerce plant will be shifted to the Bakersfield facility, which received a US$100 million expansion last year. Dreyer`s said this production shift has been in transition for the past year.
