Jean Marie Auboine wins World Chocolate Masters 2005

French-born Jean Marie Auboine has won the Barry Callebaut World Chocolate Masters , worth € 75,000 in prize money. The 35 year old is head pastry chef at the Hotel Intercontinental, Mexico City but competed under the US flag. Theme of the competition this year was Surrealism. Competitors were called upon to seek inspiration in the works of Surrealists such as Magritte, Miró, Ernst, Man Ray or Dalí. All participants were required to create one large chocolate showpiece (up to 1.5 m high), a small chocolate showpiece, a chocolate pastry, chocolates and a dessert. The special Press Award was won by 31 year old Angelika Schwalber from Germany, of the Confiserie Nebbach & Schwalber. Markus Podzimek of the Austrian confiserie Heimann won a special prize for the best chocolate pastry.
