Wrigley reports first half 2005 financial results

The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co., Chicago announced solid volume, sales and earnings increases for the second quarter and first half of 2005. Global sales for the second quarter were a record $1.04 billion, an increase of 9% from a year ago. Year to date for 2005, consolidated net sales were $1.99bn, up $221m or 12% from 2004. Sales in North America were up 5%, EMEAI sales grew by 12% and Asia was up 33%. The Joyco acquisition, which closed on the first of April, 2004, contributed approximately 3% to overall volume growth in the six months.
In the six months, consolidated operating profits were up 17%, due to strong business performance and contributions from currency, partially offset by continued investment in the business. Year-to-date, net earnings were up 17% to $293m.
