Ferrero manager’s comment attracts attention

Comments made by Marco Capurso , head of Ferrero in France, in an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien have attracted considerable attention in Germany. Numerous newspapers and magazines published excerpts from the interview in their online editions, and quoted Capurso as saying low fat Nutella and Kinder chocolate with reduced sugar content in a way “cheated” consumers.
According to an AFP news agency report Capurso said Ferrero was experimenting with recipes for “Nutella light” and low fat, virtually sugarfree Kinder chocolate. “But without success – it tastes horrible!” said Capurso. When asked if Ferrero products made children overweight Capurso said that up until now Ferrero had declined to join in the ongoing obesity debate. He went on to say that it was no longer an option to remain silent, and expressed his opinion that“light”chocolate products in a way “cheated” consumers.
Capurso explained that Ferrero declined to produce such articles out of respect for their customers. The former basketball professional Marco Capurso instead recommends consuming “small quantities” and has taken care to teach his own children – aged nine and one and a half – to enjoy confectionery in moderation.
