King-sized snack bars to disappear from UK shelves
Obesity is not only the subject of debate and action in Germany, but also in the UK. Leading food concerns in Britain, including Nestlé, Masterfoods and Cadbury Trebor Bassett together with the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) have launched a seven point programme. Cadbury Trebor Bassett are for instance proposing to phase out king-sized chocolate snack bars by spring 2005 and replace them with a new form of bar consisting of two smaller pieces. Further issues include labelling, snack vending machines in schools, advertising focusing on children and support from the food industry for health programmes.
